Housing Ministry: Replacing Sodium Lamps with LED to Conserve Electricity

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, announced today, Friday, that as part of the plan to rationalize energy and water consumption in new cities, sodium lights will continue to be replaced with LED lights on main roads and highways in several areas. Campaigns are also underway to detect and remove illegal drinking water connections, and the installation of prepaid water meters is expanding, particularly in commercial establishments.

El-Sherbiny stressed the importance of taking various necessary measures in new cities to rationalize energy and drinking water consumption, particularly in light of current developments and scenarios for dealing with the repercussions of the Iranian-Israeli military operation. He emphasized the need for field presence and regular follow-up of these assignments.

Engineer Mohamed Abdel Maqsoud, Chairman of the New October City Development Authority, stated that the Authority is currently completing urgent measures to install LED lights instead of sodium lights, which will contribute to energy conservation as part of the state's plan to conserve natural resources and provide the necessary fuel and foreign currency. He announced that 1,800 sodium floodlights have been replaced with LED floodlights to illuminate the streets of the first and second districts in the Ebny Beitak 6 area, as well as the surrounding streets.

He added that a comprehensive plan has been developed to complete the replacement of sodium floodlights with LED floodlights in the remaining districts of the Ebny Beitak 6 area. Necessary measures have also been taken to reduce electrical loads on buildings affiliated with the city authority, while continuing periodic maintenance of lampposts to maintain their condition and provide the necessary lighting, ensuring the safety and security of citizens.

Engineer Ashraf El-Samaliji, head of the New Nubaria City Authority, directed the committees to continue their work to detect and remove illegal water connections and install prepaid meters. This is to reduce the phenomenon of illegal water consumption and preserve the rights of compliant citizens, as part of the state's commitment to protecting its resources.

The head of the authority explained that the authority's specialized committee conducted a campaign in the second residential district, which resulted in the seizure of a number of illegal water connections that were drawing water illegally. The water was immediately cut off to the violating units. Reports were filed and submitted to the police department to take the necessary legal action against the violators.

Engineer Yasser Abdel Halim Hassan, Chairman of the Sadat City Development Authority, confirmed that the Water Cut-Off and Illegal Connections Control Committee is continuing its field work in the city. He noted that the city has witnessed an intensive campaign targeting illegal connections. The committee toured a number of residential and industrial areas, resulting in the detection of illegal water connections. Immediate measures were taken to cut off water, disconnect illegal lines, and issue official reports against violators, paving the way for legal action.

The committee members urged citizens not to make any illegal connections, stressing that campaigns will continue periodically to control violations, protect state resources, improve services provided to citizens, and preserve the infrastructure of public facilities.
