Egypt boosts Summer gas supply with new regasification vessel

Egypt is preparing for increased summer natural gas demand by deploying a new regasification vessel, the "ENERGOS ESKIMO," at Ain Sokhna Port. The move is part of the petroleum ministry's efforts to secure domestic gas needs and ensure stable supplies.

Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi inspected the vessel's preparations before its connection to the SUMED Port berth in Sokhna. This marks the third regasification unit the ministry will use to receive imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), convert it back into gas, and inject it into the national network. The initiative aims to diversify supply sources and support power generation plants and other critical sectors, particularly amid current regional challenges.

During the tour, Badawi emphasized timely completion of technical preparations, directing that the vessel be connected to the port within days. He also stressed adherence to occupational safety, health, and environmental standards.

Badawi was accompanied by officials including Yassin Mohamed, CEO of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), Engineer Moataz Atef, Undersecretary for the Minister's Office, Technical Office, and Official Spokesperson, Dr. Khaled El-Badri, Undersecretary for Projects, Engineer Walid Lotfy, Chairman of Petrojet, Engineer Wael Lotfy, Chairman of Enppi, and Engineer Yasser Salah, Chairman of GASCO.
