Egypt partners with Schneider Electric for smart, sustainable healthcare

The General Authority for Healthcare (GAHC) has formally announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Schneider Electric Egypt, a globally recognized leader in energy management and digital transformation. This agreement was finalized during a comprehensive event hosted by Schneider Electric, which convened prominent national and international organizations from various sectors for partnership discussions.

This collaboration underscores GAHC's strategic commitment to developing a smart and sustainable healthcare infrastructure. Such an infrastructure is designed to bolster the Universal Health Insurance System and deliver advanced healthcare services conforming to international standards.

Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of GAHC, affirmed the Authority's steady progress toward establishing a modern healthcare system. This system aims to fulfill citizen aspirations and ensure equitable access to high-quality healthcare services. He further noted that the partnership with Schneider Electric exemplifies GAHC's dedication to integrating cutting-edge technologies and smart solutions, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and environmental sustainability across its healthcare facilities. 

Dr. El-Sobky emphasized GAHC's strong focus on digital transformation within healthcare system management. The Authority seeks to embed innovation and intelligence into the design and operation of its facilities to optimize resource utilization, mitigate carbon emissions, and improve overall safety and efficiency. 

The MoU delineates several areas of cooperation with Schneider Electric. These include the development of integrated energy management models, improvements in operational efficiency, and the exchange of technical and consulting expertise in healthcare facility planning. Additionally, the partnership aims to strengthen GAHC's capacity in anticipating and implementing future smart technologies. Dr. El-Sobky highlighted that this partnership intends to create a distinct model for applying sustainable technology in healthcare infrastructure, which can be widely adopted across governorates implementing the Universal Health Insurance System, thus contributing to more efficient and equitable service delivery.

The MoU was formally signed by Dr. Amir El-Telwany, Executive Director of GAHC, and Ramy Moustafa, Vice President of Schneider Electric for North East Africa and the Levant. Sebastien Riez, Cluster President of Schneider Electric for North East Africa, the Levant, and Malta, also witnessed the signing.

Following the ceremony, a GAHC leadership delegation toured the accompanying exhibition, where they explored Schneider Electric's latest smart and sustainable technologies in energy management and digital transformation. They also observed practical applications of smart infrastructure systems applicable to healthcare facilities, designed to enhance operational efficiency, improve patient experience, and ensure resource sustainability.

Distinguished GAHC attendees at the signing ceremony included Dr. Gamal Ratba, Advisor to the Chairman for Actuarial and Financial Studies and Head of the Central Department for Institutional Support Services, Dr. Mohamed Sami, Assistant Executive Director for Planning and Health Maps Affairs and Director-General of the General Department of Human Resources, Major General Sherif Belal, Assistant Executive Director for Engineering and Projects Affairs and Director-General of the General Department of Engineering Management, Engineer Mohamed Fouad, Director of Medical Engineering Department, Engineer Mohamed Taher, Director of Crisis and Disaster Management and Risk Reduction, Dr. Mai Aboul Fottouh, General Supervisor of Patient Safety Oversight and Quality Axis Director for the Universal Health Insurance Project, Dr. Engy Soliman, Member of the Technical Office of the Chairman of the Authority, and Dr. Reham Shash, International Cooperation Officer at the Vision Realization and Partnerships Office and Member of the Technical Office of the Chairman of the Authority.

Sebastien Riez underscored the significance of this collaboration, stating it represents a pivotal step towards enhancing the sustainability and preparedness of healthcare facilities. He affirmed Schneider Electric's commitment to delivering integrated solutions that reduce carbon emissions, improve building efficiency, and increase adaptability to environmental shifts and evolving healthcare demands. He concluded that Schneider Electric's global expertise provides specialized consultations and advanced technologies, empowering partners to achieve sustainability objectives and operational excellence, thereby benefiting both communities and the environment.
