Preliminary results from the well showed production rates of up to 1,400 barrels of crude oil per day and approximately one million cubic feet of gas per day from the Bahariya formation, in addition to adding two million recoverable barrels to the reserve.
Engineer Mohamed Abdel Mageed, the company's chairman, confirmed that the well is being tested at the production station, noting that there is also promising petroleum evidence based on electrical recordings in the Abu Rawash G and B formation.
This discovery is the second in the last three months in this maturing area, following a GPS discovery last March, using artificial intelligence technology by the GPC. This discovery confirms that the Western Desert has yet to reveal all its secrets, and that the use of modern technology opens up promising prospects for exploration in maturing fields.
