Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, confirmed that the Ministry has taken several proactive measures to secure the local market's needs for basic commodities, in coordination with relevant authorities. This is aimed at maintaining market stability and the availability of commodities in reasonable quantities and at reasonable prices.
The Minister explained that the strategic sufficiency period for all basic commodities currently exceeds the six-month mark, reflecting the state's readiness and ability to deal with any developments on the international and regional levels without affecting the availability of commodities or market stability.
He pointed out that the Ministry has intensified field inspections to control markets and prevent any illegal practices related to monopoly or price gouging. He also directed supply directorates to increase monitoring campaigns at distribution outlets and local markets.
Full coordination is also underway with the Holding Company for Food Industries and all consumer complexes, and grocery stores to ensure the continued supply of goods daily in appropriate quantities to all governorates, while maintaining the quality of supply.
Farouk also stressed that the ministry operates according to flexible and constantly updated plans that enable it to deal with any emergency with high efficiency. He called on to be fully reassured of the availability of commodities and not to be misled by rumors.
