Netherlands urges companies to resume Red Sea, Suez Canal navigation

Netherlands urges companies to resume Red Sea, Suez Canal navigation

Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, spoke with Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Casper Veldkamp by phone to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and exchanging views on the latest Gaza Strip developments.

Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that Minister Abdelatty lauded the excellent bilateral relations across various sectors. Abdel Atty further expressed Egypt's desire to strengthen economic partnership, attract more Dutch investment, and boost trade.

The Minister affirmed interest in boosting cooperation across various sectors, such as logistics, port development, renewable energy, health, digitization, infrastructure, financial services, artificial intelligence, education, and scientific research. Immigration cooperation will also cover combating illegal immigration and exploring regular migration pathways.

The call further addressed Red Sea navigation security. The Minister of Foreign Affairs detailed how the recent U.S.-Yemen agreement impacts maritime navigation and international trade through the Red Sea and Suez Canal.

For his part, the Dutch Minister acknowledged the Suez Canal's vital importance to Egypt's navigation. He affirmed his readiness to encourage Dutch companies to resume operations in the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, aiming to restore normal traffic levels.

The two ministers also discussed broader Middle East developments, particularly the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip.
