Customs Authority targets two-day clearance by end of 2025

Ahmed Amawi, Head of the Customs Authority, recently conducted his initial field visits to the ports of Alexandria and El Dekheila. His purpose was to ensure a smooth workflow. During his tour, Amawi engaged in a discussion with customs officers, emphasizing, "Together, we will achieve our goals, and the customs release time will decrease to just two days by the end of 2025, which will contribute to reducing production costs."

This tour aligns with the directives of Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Finance, who has stressed the importance of continuous follow-up within the customs system. This ongoing development, which began with a series of customs facilities, is part of the Minister's broader initiative to foster a genuine partnership with the business community.

Amawi emphasized that achieving this ambitious goal demands concerted efforts, a faster pace of fieldwork, complete mechanization of customs procedures, and integrated databases among relevant authorities.

"We are determined to be 'part of the solution' in stimulating investment and creating an attractive business environment," he stated. "We're working diligently to improve customs performance to simplify procedures and facilitate trade movement."

During the tour, he also ensured he followed up on the workflow at the Tahya Misr station in Alexandria Port, the logistics services center in El Dekheila Port, the joint inspection building, and the hazardous goods storage site, commending the impressive achievement rates at these locations.

He noted that customs operations are now in a development phase, marked by clear executive plans and hands-on field interaction. This approach ensures more efficient and professional customs services, which will ultimately support supply chains, attract further investments, and help achieve the state's growth and development goals.
