During the meeting, both parties reviewed the partnership framework between Egypt and UNDP, particularly regarding the implementation of the Strategic Framework for Cooperation for Sustainable Development 2023-2027. Dr. Al-Mashat highlighted the evolving and diversifying nature of their partnership, underscoring its positive impact on various development initiatives.
Discussions also covered preparations for the Fourth
International Conference on Financing for Development in Spain this June. Both
sides emphasized the conference's importance in reforming global finance and
finding solutions to complex development challenges. Talks also included joint
events, planned by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and
International Cooperation with UNDP, during the conference to boost global
efforts in climate finance and private sector engagement.
Dr. Al-Mashat commended UNDP's active role in launching the National
Integrated Strategy for Development Financing last March. This crucial document
details Egypt's approach to financing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and
proposes an integrated national framework to accelerate their achievement.
The Minister affirmed the Ministry is entering the
strategy's implementation phase. She anticipates continued UNDP support in
activating its action plan, especially with other development partners. The aim
is to translate Egypt's Vision 2030 and SDGs into an integrated financing
system linking planning and funding.
Dr. Al-Mashat expressed keenness to continue collaboration with
UNDP on the Egypt Human Development Report for 2025. A foundational workshop on
April 13, 2025, gathered academics, civil society, and national institutions.
She stressed the importance of broad participation and multi-stakeholder
engagement in shaping the report's vision and analytical direction.
The meeting also highlighted Egypt's progress in UNDP's 2025
Human Development Index report, noting improvements in healthcare services,
years of education, and reduced gender disparity. The Minister explained that
the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation
is focused on maximizing economic development efforts to close sectoral
development gaps across various fields, especially in human and industrial
development and other priority areas.
Dr. Al-Mashat presented the upcoming National Narrative for
Economic Development. This initiative seeks to align Egypt's Vision 2030 with
the government's program through clear targets, fostering economic development
and resilience. It focuses on macroeconomic stability, development financing,
industrial development, foreign direct investment, employment, and human
capital investment.
Finally, Al-Mashat commended UNDP's support in preparing and publishing 27 local reports for localizing the SDGs. She also expressed satisfaction with the signing and implementation of a joint project for SDG localization, in cooperation with UNDP, the UN Resident Coordinator's Office, UN-Habitat, and UNICEF.
