Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, stated that the meeting stressed the momentum in relations between the two countries, embodied in the holding of the first meeting of the High-Level Cooperation Council between Egypt and Greece during the visit, in addition to the signing of the joint declaration on the strategic partnership between the two countries and a number of agreements that enhance cooperation in various fields. This reflects the shared will to advance relations to deeper and broader levels.
El-Shenawy added that the President stressed during the meeting Egypt's interest in the distinguished partnership with Greece, which represents a strong pillar of bilateral and regional cooperation. He also stressed Egypt's keenness to enhance joint cooperation with Greece in the economic, trade, tourism, and cultural fields, as well as in the fields of energy, transportation, and electricity interconnection. This is particularly with the implementation of the Egypt-Greece electrical interconnection project, which represents a qualitative shift in bilateral relations between the two countries and opens new horizons for the transfer of clean electricity from Egypt to Europe for the first time.
He explained that the Greek President expressed his country's great appreciation for Egypt, noting Greece's keenness to strengthen relations with Egypt in line with the existing partnership between the two countries, especially given Egypt's pivotal role in establishing the foundations of regional security and stability and addressing regional crises. This reflects Egypt's strategic importance as a major partner of the European Union.
The official spokesperson explained that the meeting also addressed regional issues of mutual interest, most notably the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, Syria, Libya, and Yemen, as well as maritime security in the Red Sea. They also discussed ways to avoid regional escalation and enhance joint efforts to combat illegal immigration. In this regard, the importance of continuing coordination and consultation between Egypt and Greece to ensure calm and restore stability in the region was emphasized.
