Omar Talaat Moustafa: Golf tourists spend 4 times more than average tourists

Mr. Omar Talaat Moustafa, Chairman of the Egyptian Golf Federation, emphasized the importance of investing in golf tourism as a high-return activity. He noted that golf tourists are among the highest-spending types of tourists, opening up prospects for supporting the Egyptian economy through the development of this specialized sector.

Moustafa said in a television interview: "There are many countries that have been able to benefit greatly from golf. For example, the Costa del Sol in Spain has 70 golf courses and attracts 1.2 million tourists annually to play golf. Similarly, the Belek region in Turkey has only 15 courses, visited by 140,000 tourists annually."

He continued: "In Egypt, we have 25 golf courses, but the number of tourists who visit these courses does not exceed 30,000, despite the fact that the capacity of each course allows for up to 50,000 rounds annually, which indicates the potential for expansion and greater utilization of these facilities."

Moustafa explained, "If efforts are undertaken professionally and thoughtfully, Egypt can attract approximately 400,000 golf tourists, especially since studies indicate that golf tourists spend four times more than the average tourist."

He pointed out that Egypt received approximately 15.7 million tourists last year and aims to reach 30 million by 2028. He said that Egypt hosts numerous golf Championships in Egypt and are working to market golf aggressively with the aim of attracting more tourists interested in this sport and achieving a qualitative shift in Egyptian sports tourism.

On the other hand, Egypt is hosting the Arab Championship for Juniors and Women in Golf, which is scheduled to start today, Wednesday, May 7, and will continue until next May 10.

The Championship will be held in six different categories at the Madinaty Golf Club and Katameya Dunes Golf Club. The opening ceremony is scheduled for this evening, Wednesday, May 7, at Madinaty Golf Club. The official competitions will be held tomorrow and the day after, May 8 and 9, at Katameya Dunes Club. The closing ceremony and awards ceremony will be held next Saturday, May 10, at Madinaty Golf Club. More than 110 players representing 12 Arab countries will participate in the Championship: Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, the UAE, and Egypt (the host country).
