El-Sherbiny: Accelerating implementation of Fustat Gardens Project

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting with representatives of the companies implementing the components of the Fustat Hills Gardens Project in Old Cairo.

The meeting was attended by ministry officials and the Central Agency for Reconstruction, at the beginning of his inspection visit on Thursday to review the implementation status, progress, and implementation rates of the project.

El-Sherbiny listened to a detailed explanation of the work being carried out in the investment zone, the river zone, the adventure zone, the heritage zone, the hills, the green spaces, and various other project components.

He directed the Ministry's work group to continue following up with the executing companies, evaluating the various works being implemented, and advancing the work. He stressed the need to compress timetables and accelerate the pace of work to complete the implementation of the project. He highlighted the importance of field presence and periodic follow-up of the executive position, and continuing to provide full support for the project.

The Minister was briefed on the latest developments in the implementation status of the components and elements of the Fustat Hills Gardens Project, and the progress rates at the sites, covering an area of 500 acres. The project is being implemented in a central location in the heart of historic Cairo, which was previously used as a landfill. It is considered one of the largest parks of its kind in the Middle East, as the project includes a number of activities that rely on reviving Egyptian heritage across the various Pharaonic, Coptic, Islamic and modern eras, in addition to a group of cultural and commercial activities, hotel services and open-air theatres, in addition to an area for ancient antiquities and excavations, and a heritage gardens area. It is also surrounded by a large plateau that provides a unique visual connection with the Giza Pyramids, the Salah El Din Citadel and the minarets of Cairo.
