Dr. Awad stressed that Sinai development is a key focus of the government's program, and that the ministry attaches special importance to this vital issue in its action plan to improve and develop its infrastructure, connect it to the Delta, and make it a natural extension of the Nile Valley. It also provides new job opportunities for youth and attracts investors to Sinai peninsula.
She explained that investments estimated at EGP 875.5
million have been allocated from the total investment plan for the two
governorates (including EGP 385.5 million for South Sinai and EGP 490 million
for North Sinai) to implement local road paving, electricity and lighting
projects, environmental improvement, and support for the needs of local units.
She explained that the two governorates witnessed an unprecedented development
boom during the current fiscal year 2024/2025.
Investment projects also recorded record implementation
rates, some reaching 100%, a clear indication of the success of the development
plans implemented by the state to improve quality of life and drive development
in these vital areas.
Awad noted that the total implementation rate of the
total allocations included in the investment plan reached 65% for South Sinai
Governorate and 67% for North Sinai Governorate. She noted that within the
framework of implementing road paving projects, the total appropriations
included in North Sinai Governorate amounted to approximately EGP 264.7
million, with roads totaling 40 km in length being constructed within the city
centers of Arish, Bir al-Abd, Sheikh Zuweid, Rafah, and al-Hasana and Nakhl. In
South Sinai Governorate, the total allocations for paving amounted to EGP 203.5
million.
The report received by the Minister of Local Development from Dr. Saeed Helmy, Head of the Strategic Management and Local Development Sector at the Ministry, indicated that regarding the implementation of the urban and rural development program in the two governorates, the total appropriations included for North Sinai Governorate amounted to EGP 1.5 million, while the total allocations allocated for South Sinai Governorate amounted to EGP 19 million.
