Transport Ministry offers 23 dry ports, logistics zone for investment

Driven by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's vision to position Egypt as a regional hub for transportation, logistics, transit trade, and the nationwide advancement of its transport infrastructure, the Ministry of Transport, through the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports, has issued a statement inviting investors, business leaders, and all exporters and producers to capitalize on the burgeoning opportunities within Egypt's dry port and logistics zone sector, highlighting its significant advantages.

The Ministry's statement underscored the sector's current role in facilitating trade, alleviating congestion in maritime ports, enhancing logistics services, curbing high transportation costs, and streamlining the movement and connectivity between production and consumption centers. Furthermore, it contributes to mitigating negative environmental impacts, reducing the duration and improving the efficiency of inspection and customs clearance processes, achieving economies of scale in distribution for end-users via efficient rail links, decreasing road accidents in national networks and urban areas, generating employment, and boosting the effectiveness of logistics supply chains.

The dry ports available for investment include:

Sadat Dry Port - Borg El Arab Dry Port - Sohag Dry Port - Qena Dry Port with a connected logistics zone - Kom Abu Radi Dry Port and Logistics Zone, Beni Suef - Abu Simbel Dry Port with a connected logistics zone - Sadat City Logistics Zone - Toshka Logistics Zone - Matrouh Logistics Zone - Salloum Logistics Zone

Logistics Zones and Dry Ports in the Sinai Peninsula: Arish Dry Port and Logistics Zone- Baghdad Dry Port and Logistics Zone (Ismailia-Owega Road) - Ras Sidr Logistics Zone - El Tor Logistics Zone - El Naqab Logistics Zone - Taba Dry Port and Logistics Zone - El Hasana Logistics Zone (Arish-El Hasana-Taba Road) - Bir El Abd Logistics Zone.

The statement further advised interested investors to contact the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports at the Ministry of Transport building in the government district of the New Administrative Capital to finalize procedures and enter into agreements with the Authority.

Notably, the 6th of October Dry Port, inaugurated in June 2023, stands as a successful public-private partnership model and a significant advancement in the transportation and logistics landscape. Its strategic role in easing export and import flows and decongesting seaports is facilitated by numerous benefits, including the transfer of goods to maritime ports via the railway network, rapid and efficient customs procedures operating on an advanced digital platform, and the availability of customs warehouses for storing incoming goods.
