The automotive-focused website 'Car and Driver' mentioned that for car enthusiasts in the United States, the VR6 engine has been discontinued for some time. The last Volkswagen vehicle sold in the U.S. with this engine was the 2023 Atlas, a mid-size crossover SUV.
The 3.6-liter VR6 engine delivered 276 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. It has since been replaced by a more fuel-efficient 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in U.S. Volkswagen models.
