Hyundai recalls over 145,000 electric vehicles

Hyundai has issued a recall for approximately 145,235 electric vehicles in the United States due to a potential loss of propulsion. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identified a faulty integrated charging control module as the root cause of the issue. This defect can prevent the vehicle's battery from charging.

The recall affects various models, including the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, Genesis GV70, and Genesis G80 from the 2022 to 2025 model years. Hyundai dealerships will inspect and repair affected vehicles free of charge, which may involve replacing faulty parts and updating software.

Kia, a Hyundai subsidiary, is also recalling approximately 62,000 EV6 models from 2022 to 2024 due to the same charging module issue. Kia dealerships will also offer free inspections and repairs.

Vehicle recalls are a common occurrence in the automotive industry. Recently, Porsche recalled over 27,000 Taycan electric vehicles, and Jeep recalled 194,000 hybrid vehicles. Tesla is also known for frequent recalls of its electric vehicles.
