Renewable energy push to save electricity sector $4.1 billion annually

Engineer Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, revealed that the ministry plans to add new renewable energy capacities of up to 30 gigawatts. This would result in fuel savings of $4.1 billion annually. This was announced during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly to follow up on plans to expand the implementation of renewable energy projects. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, and Engineer Hassan Al-Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, as well as a number of officials.

The Prime Minister underscored the government's commitment to advancing renewable energy projects. This meeting aims to monitor progress and accelerate the shift from traditional energy sources to sustainable alternatives.

Dr. Rania Al-Mashat presented an overview of concessional financing from development partners for renewable energy projects, detailing the status of 18 ongoing initiatives, including those supported by the NUFU program for electricity network investments.

Engineer Mahmoud Esmat presented the status of the current and projected renewable energy capacities aligned with the integrated and sustainable energy strategy. He discussed the necessary hydrogen production capacities and analyzed the ratio of renewable, hydro, and storage capacities to the overall energy mix.
